I guess it is some sort of either a natural turning-into-adult-at-eighteen life-changing force, or a power of a miraculous and almighty Whatsoever that manipulated me today. What else, then, could possibly explain why I, who never ever cleans up my room unless driven by emergency or yelling, suddenly felt like clean up my whole bedroom/study/dining room/living room from up to bottom? The trigger is a jewelry rack I bought yesterday. It is very pretty, commonly seen in small stores though. So the first thought that I had when I put up the only necklaces of mine on this rack was that I must have a better surrounding to match such a delicate thingy. Any acquaintance before whose coming I dare not to have an emergency tidy-up knows well how my bedroom usually looks like: piled up books, paper and folders, unfolded clothes on chairs, bagged snacks at bookcases. It is messy to the degree that not any girl should stand. Well, so I am as well surprised to see me myself readily cleaning up on a casual and common weekday.
There must be some Great leaving a sentence like “You will find bestow of God with ease, accidentally.” If not, I want to create one. The drawers I hardly opened before actually contain a rich memory of my childhood, or even my dad’s childhood. Isn’t it amazing to see my dad’s copybook in his elementary school?
Well this isn’t it. Nina’s sketch of Conan, although I cannot recall at all when she drew it, could be one of her early works as she did not appear to be a brilliant painter at first in middle school. She has flourished later on, probably since her Junior 2 or 3, and of course has been fully caught attention on Senior 1. If she becomes a star, who knows how much her Conan will cost. I also found the name cards of my kindergarten friends. I remember we all made the name cards with name and contact information on one side and a drawing on the other. The kindergarten might be the smallest one in Nanjing, with only 15 kids and it was closed up after we graduated. The names of my little friends that I almost forgot jumped into my eyes, making me repeat those lovely names again and again and trying to recollect what they looked like. Now I wonder how they are and where they are. Fifteen people out of billions? Oh no I hope the fate will bring us together again.
There are two boxes put deep in the cabinet. The bigger box holds all the greeting cards received in my elementary school. I still have a considerably small class in elementary school but fortunately I still have some of them as high school fellows. Most cards come from certain people - couple girls who are my good friends or who never illiberally gave out cards and some boys who were my desk mates or working partners. The good old time is so sweet to think about. Last time when I ran into some elementary school friend, a boy (he never sent me cards though), surprisingly he told me most boys had crush on me at that time. I did not believe him then, laughing and thinking he was joking on me. But today when I again read those cards, I have to say, honestly, that I can see what he meant. There are also many anonymous cards and an extravagant one from a boy who only saw me once….. JESUS CHRIST!! God knows if it is a good thing to be a “public favorite” like that……. Oh gosh I feel I am fainting…. Wang is my classmate now. She transferred in 4th grade. We just discussed about our old friends and today I see the cards she gave me in her 1st grade. I laughed so hard at the silly cover, wrong spelling of my name and complete assistance of Pinyin, “good good study” wish and so on.
The smaller box is more recent but not less stupid. I don’t know anyone also loved the magazine Mickey Mouse and collected the little presents it gave out with the issues. I used to keep every present and every single piece of wrap paper going along with it. In the box lie the Harry Potter and Conan stickers, Witch necklaces, all kinds of collectable cards and (gosh, I am ashamed to mention this) mini posters of Hero. Some of them seem so familiar as if I could see how I got them as it were but yesterday, while others are too distant to believe they have belonged to me. Among them there are also letters from random people. How come people at that time love making pen-friends? I never understand.
Another cabinet contains a lot of notebooks and paper. I forgot how I used to love making the cover myself and placing the stickers all over the notebooks. And also I was totally shocked seeing an unfinished HP book I wrote, having no clue when I did such thing. Besides, there are several scratch books made on all kinds of purposes, which sadly reminds me how often I read newspaper before. I also got the notebooks of Junior class, full of silly things like “A drinks in class” and “B talks in class”, or like weekly reports with Miss Xie’s comments. The funniest one was Jeff’s comment “You wrote that word wrong”||||||| Oh please, I could laugh at our silliness to death.
So the stuff and the memory stir me up. I want to call those friends, just saying hello and finding out how they are, but I know their schools won’t let them home at four.
Hey guys, I miss you all. The 好朋友小队…. I don’t remember what it is and who was in it but I wish those I know and those who know me happy forever. It is not a holiday, nor is it my birthday. In fact it is nothing but a November 17. Still it is someday I start to think of you all. I hope it is not too late.
By the way, 维尼小熊今天十八岁生日快乐!明天雨航同学也十八岁生日快乐!I wish you a happy birthday and happy un-birthdays from now on.
